Hi all,

I started working on this interview about a week or two ago. Of course, with all that has happened over the past few days, a lot of what is said here will probably be bittersweet to say the least. I hope you enjoy Miyabi and Temma’s sincere dreams for the future.

Representing Holostars, this pair with dozens of collabs under their belts checks in with Animedia!

An in-depth discussion with Holostars’ closest pair!

The Hanakishi Bond

Round-table conference! Compensating for each other’s weaknesses—Truly the ideal duo!

First, please give us your introductions!

M: I’m Hanasaki Miyabi! I like games, and watching movies and musicals. I mostly do gaming streams, but recently I’ve been into creating vlog videos to commemorate places I’ve been in real life!

T: My name is Kishido Temma. I normally play competitive games on stream. Oh, and as of late I’ve done some different content, like making my own game and playing it on stream!

How did you become friends?

M: Well, Temma and I have a lot of games that we like in common. He also struck me as someone with a friendly and kind personality, so I figured we would get along. When we first met, I wasn’t a part of a unit or anything like that with anyone else. I thought, “I could probably do those sorts of activities with someone like him,” and so I reached out. At the beginning, things were a little awkward between us, but I think we’ve become really close friends now.

T: For us, streaming is our job, but whenever I’m doing things with Miyabi it feels more like we’re just hanging out (lol). Finding games that I want to play with Miyabi on stream is honestly really fun.

M: The radio program we do called Hanakishi Radio is already almost a year old. I think that’s pretty incredible! Although, when we first started out, we definitely had a little bit of a “strictly business” sort of vibe, didn’t we (lol).

T: As we kept doing collabs, over time Miyabi and I naturally became closer. Nowadays, we’re so close that every now and then, we’ll casually visit each other’s homes and stay over.

M: Even though Temma is normally very precise in how he likes things done, sometimes when we’ve done off-collab sleepover streams he’ll just say “oh, we can just wing it!” (lol)

T: I only like slacking off whenever I meet up with Miyabi or the other Holostars members, you know.

What would you say each others’ strengths and weaknesses are?

M: Temma is always carefully planning things out, and is very meticulous in his work. I can be a bit too carefree at times, which is a part of me that I just can’t escape from, and so I admire him for being so hardworking. That being said, whenever Temma gets into a mood where he doesn’t want to do anything, he will literally do nothing (lol). I think that’s a weakness of his—he can only do 0% or 100%.

T: For Miyabi, no matter what I say he’ll always be okay with it, at least initially. I tend to be blunt and will outright say something isn’t interesting if I feel that way, and so I think his depth of character is really incredible. As for his weaknesses… I honestly don’t think he has any.

M: You liar! You think I have a ton of weaknesses! (lol)

T: No, seriously. If anything, your weaknesses add to your charm. Miyabi is the type who will give anything a shot, but often he’ll get bored with it almost immediately after trying it out (lol). But personally, I think that fits Miyabi’s personality perfectly. So, I don’t really see them as weaknesses at all.

M: You can probably tell from what we’ve said just now, but we honestly have such opposite personalities. Somehow, we end up making a good match, though.

T: It feels like we mesh together really well.* I’ve come to realize that our individual strengths balance out each others’ weaknesses.

What do you think your position is in Holostars?

M: My goal is to be the “Grandma’s House” of Holostars!

T: What is that supposed to mean? (lol)

M: I love Holostars so much, and so whenever we decide to do something as a group, I always make sure that I participate. Because of that, my viewers often tell me that they can feel at ease when I’m there. That is why I want to be someone that offers the same kind of comfort as being home, for everyone in Holostars and the viewers too.

T: That makes sense. Alright, then I suppose I’m the “Facilitator” of Holostars. I think I’m probably the only member in Holostars who has done a one-on-one collab with every other member. Since I can be flexible—like, “Okay, today I’ll be the tsukkomi,” for example—I like to think that my collab partners find me easy to work with.

M: Temma is good at being the host whenever we’re playing a game with everyone. There was a time when I tried hosting (a big group collab) once, and all I could think was “Man, this is so stressful.” I think Temma’s amazing for being able to handle it. I can definitely see him as being in the “facilitator” role.

Looking back on your activities thus far, what stands out as being the most memorable for you?

M: For me, it’s definitely the first full-scale live performance we did as Holostars in January of 2022. Since it was our first concert, I was incredibly nervous beforehand. I used to practice my dancing alone at the park in the middle of the night. But the sense of accomplishment I felt, after the nine of us successfully performed that live concert, is something I’ll never forget.

T: I’d have to say it was the release of our first group original song, “Just Follow Stars.” Hearing my own voice coming off of a CD, being able to sing my own song at karaoke… I’ve been able to experience so many things that you never would normally in life. The song itself is so bright and inspiring, and so I really love it. It’s an important memory for me.

M: Temma also has his own original song called “Shooting Star”. He’s put a lot of hard work into his singing.

T: It’s only one song. I don’t think that can be considered “a lot of hard work” (lol). But sometime soon, I’d like to release another original song, if I can.

What are your goals going forward?

M: I really love playing games, so it’s a dream of mine to voice act in one some day! I’d be more than grateful if I got to contribute to a game I enjoy in any shape or form, but my biggest wish is to see “Voice: Hanasaki Miyabi” written in the credits.

T: That sounds really nice, being a seiyuu. I want to do that too. While we’re at it, we should voice characters that are twins together. I’ll play the aggressive older brother, and Miyabi can be the younger brother who is always trying to rein me in (lol).

M: That’s so specific (lol). Like, “Don’t do that, Onii-chan.” That type of vibe?

T: Yes, yes. Anyways, my goal is for things to be “everlasting”. Being here together with my friends is so comforting, and our number of fans is growing day by day, so I’ll work hard to preserve these circumstances.

M: Maintaining the status quo is actually pretty tough, you know? (lol) Well, the main gist of it is that I really want to work as a voice actor. So, if anyone reading this happens to be involved in the industry, I’d be incredibly grateful if you’d consider me!

Please give us your closing regards!

M: There are lots of us Holostars members who love games, anime, and manga. There’s a lot of us here, too, so I’m sure you will find someone who you’d like to support! If you’re interested, please look us up and come hang out in all of our streams!

T: Nah, don’t worry about all of Holostars. Just come watch me (lol).

M: That’s so bad, you can’t just say that (lol).

T: But just like Miyabi said, you will absolutely find at least one of us that you will want to support. By the way, people often tell me that “just listening to your voice helps restore my mental energy.” If you’ve been feeling tired lately, please come visit my channel!

I want the world to know! Here’s what’s special about me:

M: I do a lot of gaming streams, but recently I’ve started posting vlogs, too!! It’s a brand-new style of vlog, combining the real and virtual worlds!! Please come check it out!!

T: My specialty is my ability to keep streaming consistently, no matter what! Since I can keep going without letting my mental state get in the way, you can count on me to always be there streaming. It’s like, “Temma’s stream is always right there waiting for you!” Also, as a bonus, I’m actually pretty good at singing, gaming, talking, and even studying! Banzai! Banzai!

Notes:

1) Temma uses the metaphor here of them being like gears in that they mesh really well. This is cute to me because it’s exactly the same metaphor as in Mismatched Flowery Knight…!
